SCO Closely Monitors Yahoo SCOX Message Board

UPDATE: SCO Returns!!!

28 August 2003

My first SCO article was posted to the Yahoo SCOX message board yesterday. That message board appears to be an active place for those who need their SCO fix. Signal to noise ratio isn't quite as bad as Usenet, but it looks like material that eventually makes it to Slashdot and other locations frequently shows up there first.

The link appears on Yahoo's board at 4:29 pm Eastern. My apache logs show the first hit at 16:30:01 from what looks to be an AT&T cable modem user. However, there is a more interesting hit at 16:35:25. At that time the 24th hit comes in from host226.caldera.com. So, within 5 minutes of a post on the Yahoo message boards, there is someone using a Caldera ip address.

I expect that there might be another if this message gets posted on Yahoo. However, after that, SCO will probably be smart enough to at least use another one of the many Canopy companies to browse.

So, if anyone wants to talk to someone at SCO, just post on Yahoo's SCO message board.

Update: Sco Checks in at 2:30 PM

28 August 2003 2:52pm Eastern

Well, it looks like SCO doesn't always watch Yahoo's message board closely. They didn't follow the link to the page you are reading now until 2:30. Below are the apache logs showing caldera.com hits:

host226.caldera.com - - [27/Aug/2003:15:35:25 -0500] "GET /sco/john_wall.html HTTP/1.0" 200 13046 "http://finance.messages.yahoo.com/bbs?.mm=FN&action=m&board=1600684464&tid=cald&sid=1600684464&mid=34099" "Mozilla/4.61 [en] (Win98; I)"

host226.caldera.com - - [27/Aug/2003:16:15:12 -0500] "GET /sco/john_wall.html HTTP/1.1" 200 13046 "http://finance.messages.yahoo.com/bbs?.mm=FN&action=m&board=1600684464&tid=cald&sid=1600684464&mid=34099" "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; Q312461; .NET CLR 1.0.3705)"

host226.caldera.com - - [28/Aug/2003:13:28:20 -0500] "GET /sco/caldera_watches.html HTTP/1.1" 200 1602 "http://finance.messages.yahoo.com/bbs?.mm=FN&action=m&board=1600684464&tid=cald&sid=1600684464&mid=34365" "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; Q312461; .NET CLR 1.0.3705)"

ukadp.ut.caldera.com - - [28/Aug/2003:13:29:03 -0500] "GET /sco/caldera_watches.html HTTP/1.1" 200 1602 "http://finance.messages.yahoo.com/bbs?action=m&board=1600684464&tid=cald&sid=1600684464&mid=34365" "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1)"

So, we have two hits on yesterday's story and two on today's. Based on the three different user agent descriptions, we may have 3 different people involved here. Although, now that they've seen this, I doubt I'll see another caldera.com machine here.

See all the long boring stock discussions.
